Our puppet making workshops are aimed at a range of audiences including schools, museums, community organizations, festivals, private parties and other events. We cater for participants of all ages and abilities.
Our puppet making workshops can be run as a one off event, or as a course consisting several sessions.
Approach and Methodology We will start off by having an informal chat with your school [email or phone] to work out which workshop will be best for your group.
Workshop Options The types of workshops on offer are very flexible and will be adapted to your particular needs. Workshops can be based around a particular curriculum topic such as; Dinosaurs, Romans, Ancient Egypt or Space for example. Workshops can additionally feature a more general theme based on issues such as; Recycling and the Environment, Social Skills, Drugs Awareness, Science and Technology, People and History, or a seasonal celebration. Or, workshops can be 'just for fun!'
The minimum timescale for a workshop is 2 hours.
Puppet-Stew are happy to do a run of sessions over a few weeks with after school groups, holiday clubs etc. These weekly sessions [which are with the same group each week] can be hour long sessions if this suits better.
All workshops are guaranteed 100% FUN !
Requirements and Materials Puppet-Stew will usually supply all workshop materials. This will be discussed in more detail at the initial consultation.
Duration and Type of Workshops It is possible to create wonderful and expressive puppets in a 2 hour session. School sessions take place either before or after lunch. More complex builds will require more time; this will be discussed at the booking consultation. Class size, age and ability will be taken into account when considering which workshop to use. Workshops are suitable from nursery school, with simple but effective puppets being built, right up to the more taxing builds suitable for primary 5, 6 and 7.
If requested, the puppets can be incorporated into a performance, with the pupils writing a script, storyboarding it ,making a stage, building props and putting on a show for the school, parents and invited guests. This process will take at least six sessions, depending on the type of puppets being built.
Benefits of a Puppet Workshop Puppets allow children to learn while having fun. I aim to give each child the opportunity for positive self expression. Puppet workshops offer a useful means of gathering and sharing knowledge on a given theme or topic. Participation in a puppet workshop allows children to learn something new and gain a sense of achievement.
